hungering for righteousness

I was thinking this morning about Jesus’ words, “Blessed are those that hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be satisfied.” It struck me that there is a great difference between hungering and thirsting for righteousness and hungering and thirsting to be right. One will be satisfied. The other… not so much.

I used to be part of a group that would often ask, "Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?"

For so long I thought that the two went hand in hand. I mean who wouldn't be happy knowing they are right?!

But what expense do we pay in order to be right? Many times, in order to prove that we are right, we sacrifice valuable relationships.

In the end ... how important is it really? Like you said, God wants us to hunger and thirst for righteousness ... not step on the toes of everyone around us so that they say, "Once again, you are right."

I feel much better when I try to grown humility in my heart instead of pride.

That statement is more true than I had realized...this past summer, our church family was just ripped apart for the sake of "who was right"...I am still grieving...

Thanks guys for your thoughts.
