Football Picks

During the final week of the baseball season, when the Cardinals were in the midst of their 3rd 7 game losing streak, I told everyone who'd listen that they would win the World Series. (Sure, I'd said that for 18 years straight, but it finally paid off.)

I figured the Cards were the best team in the NL the last 2 seasons but hadn't won it all yet. My point being: once you get to the play offs, the regular season doesn't matter.

I think that's how the Colts are this year. In fact, I think their slide at the end of the season will finally give them the push they need to get over the top. So I'm saying the Colts win it all. (But if they don't make it past the Patriots this weekend, will that make Brady the greatest quarterback ever?)

My mind says Bears, but my heart says Saints... too good of a story.

So I say Colts over Saints in the Super Bowl.

What are your picks?

Let's have a little contest. And as usual, Angie Burns will send the winner a little prize package. (Angie, you are too sweet to keep offering stuff like this.)

Huh? What? Did you say something? I'm sorry... I don't speak football.

I really like colts. They are pretty and they like to run, but seriously they are still kinda like babies. I think bears sound mean and strong, but it is winter and they have been hibernating. It has been really cold. They are getting skinny. I think a colt could outrun a bear, but if the bear is like really ticked off and it actually catches the colt....I think the colt would be in deep do do. However, I am still like the colts because they are prettier.
And everyone knows that God is on the side of the Saints, so who can win against them. My question is are they REALLY saints?

Angie, who is not a football fan in January? Tis the reason for the season!

Amy G. That reminds me of the time Kim filled out the College Basketball/March Madness bracket and picked Detroit to win it all cause they sounded mean. I didn't even know there was a Detroit U.

I was a bit bugged that she filled it out to begin with cause it was some college guys (Sunset College Class) 's scam to take girls on dates without having to ask them out. 2 guys orginized it and the prize was they would buy the 2 winners' supper. They were taking a gamble but it was basically all girls that were signing up. I was a bit surprised Kim couldn't see through their little ploy. ...or could she?

Don't know why, but I have not been much of a P Manning fan, while I continue to be amazed with Brady's poise. Pat's over Saints.

Hey Paul, so good to hear from you here.

I never liked P.M. when he was at Tenn. but I've converted since he's become a pro.

I think if he wins the super bowl he gets to take his place with the all-time greats. However, if Brady wins, he becomes THE all-time great. Montana-lovers might disagree though.

I still haven't decided who I'll pull for... probably whoever is on offense.

tim rush said...

Of course, when I say P.M. I mean Payton Manning... not Paul Miller.

But that does remind me of the lady in Snyder telling me I suffer from PMS: Paul Miller Syndrome because I kept following in your footsteps... AIM, Portugal, Assist., Snyder...

Great... now I'm gonna think of Paul whenever I think of PMS!

As much as I would like the Saints to win... since everyone knows, "that God is on the side of the Saints" I still think that the Bears are going to beat them. I do want the Colts to beat the Pats but Payton will have to have some help against Brady and his offense. So Im calling Bears vs. Pats... Bears take it all. Bears that hibernate get hungry amy g!!... and it is safe to say that they have been hibernating.

So, what do you say... we pick a point half way between all of us and meet to watch the game? Well, that might be Nuevo Larado. Ah, just all come on down to Guadalajara! Jeff, you bring the stuffed jalepenos. Paul, still have that pan of grease on the back of the stove? Fish out the dead flies and you bring the fries. Dusty, how about some nachos. Angie, what do they eat at Mississippi Super Bowl parties? (Water Boy flashbacks just scared me.) You can pick up Greg on your way.

Alright, so it's a date. See you in February!

Mr. T Rush:

I will sound off on my Super BOwl Picks. First of all I will say this. I am a huge Bears fan but I don't think that they will survive the high energy attack of the Saints. As for the Colts-Pats, I think that Brady has Manning's number. Therfore Saints and Pats in the SuperBowl with the Pats being the spoiler of the season to remember for New Orleans.

Hope all is well with you and your family. How is Quincy doing?

Hope you don't mind a stranger posting! Since I live in Illinois currently, and lived in Indiana for 9 years previously, I have to go with Colts over Bears in the Super Bowl. And for the same reason as Tim: I stuck with St. Louis and predicted they would win it all when they were down; it happens every time. A good team struggling that comes through in the post season. That's the Colts this year. It was the Steelers last year. In MLB, it was the White Sox last year and the Red Sox the previous. Enjoy the game!

Hey Mr. Shawn, so nice of you to swing by. The Q is doing great... finally over his sickness. After Sunday, when he'd have to take medicine he'd complain. But I'd remind him that any that he takes by putting into his mouth... well, that's a good medicine.

And James R., did you know my boy is named after your great city? Good picks by the way.

I need to tell you that I think that I am getting the shaft by being kept out of the family by such a minor detail like....a Cub's fan. I think the twins definitely want me to be included. By the way.....a long over due monsterous thank you for my sweet christmas gift!!!!! I can only hope for continued generosity.

Forget 'Wifeswap', I am seeing a whole new reality tv show of all the Rush family drama! You can have the general public call in or text in their vote of Y or N as to whether Shawn is in or out. Looks like you're on thin ice Tim.

Amy G, you totally rock!

SB picks ... I'm going Cowboys! Oh, yeah ... forgot ... dang it!

Colts 28
Saints 23

Angie, any note that begins with "wifeswap" makes me nervous. And if you think I'm on thin ice, I should tell you about my little brother, Baby Dennis who got traded for a tank of gas.

I was too little to remember him, but mom and dad say he still works at that same filling station. They take him a fruit cake everytime they head north to visit their family.

Sarah, at first I thought you said, "Shock". ...which might make more sense.

Trey, Nice, scores and all. I'm still cooking on your mentioning the other day, Luke 18:17.

Hey... what do you know...am I the only one to pick the bears colts? It's gonna be tough but I still take the rookie qb of the bears over payton maning... I guess we'll see.

tim rush said...

Upon further review, Jeff, I think you picked the Pats and Bears.

James R. of Quincy Ill was the only one who called the Bears and Colts. Good job James.

Angie, tell us what he's won!

The Gearharts said...

Did that cost me a timeout... I should not have thrown the red flag but I might need a drug to enhance memory. I did say bears pats and I would have bet money that I said bears colts.... Anyone.... what is wrong with my brain????

Anyway, I'm still going bears to the end and hats off to James R. with the bestest correctest pick so far! If the colts do beat the bears can we call him a prophet?
