The Gods Must Be Crazy

I remember in the late 80’s when the movie, The Gods Must Be Crazy came out. So many people at church and school came up to my sister and brother and me and told us we HAD to go see that HYSTERICAL movie. For whatever reason, they said, the movie reminded them of us. They thought it was so funny and knew that, because of our sense of humor, we would too. One evening the three of us decided to go see this GREAT movie that all had been raving about. (This isn’t the point of the post… which come to think of it, there is no point. But how cool to grow up with a brother and sister that you could have fun hanging out with.) Back to our story… I don’t mind saying, we were quite offended. We were offended that people would see this movie and think that we too would find it funny. I don’t think we lasted 30 minutes. We kept thinking, “Surely this will get better. Surely it will be funny soon.” It never did.

If you want to rent a great movie, let me suggest:
The Power of One (Historical Drama… perhaps the greatest movie ever made)
Frequency (Suspense/Thriller)
The Man Who Knew Too Little (Comedy)

Other suggestions?
Any busts we shouldn’t see?

And if you are offended by my view of The God’s Must be Crazy… well, you should be.

One of my very favorite movies as of late is Napoleon Dynamite. Very, very funny and random with absolutely no point to it at all. And clean to boot!

Also, I love Batman Begins -- in my book, the best superhero movie made ever.

Pride and Prejudice.

I hear Facing the Giants, which isn't on video yet, is GREAT.

I loved Chronicles of Narnia.
And Napoleon Dynamite.

And I love that you watch the Office. I don't all the time, but when I do it cracks me up. It reminds me all the time of Jeremy.
That and King of Queens.

I think between all of us we could give them some good material for the "The Home" version of "The Office".

Shane, loved Dynamite. I thought it was so funny but really couldn't believe anyone else did... so quirky. Did you see when he hosted SNL? His intro was classic.

Heather, I shouldn't admit this in public, but Pride adn Prejudice wasn't half bad. And i was shocked at how good Narnia was. I didn't think they'd be able to stick with the story at all. I'm anxious to see the rest.

Has Jeremy told you about the movie we're writing? If so, mums the word. I don't want anyone stealing our idea.

I have to admit that Dynamite really caught me off guard. I didn't think I'd like it but when I saw it, I couldn't stop laughing. And yes, I did see him on SNL. My favorite part was when they did the parody of the Black Eyed Peas -- two words for you: Sweet Skills.

No I have NOT. It would be classic, no doubt.

So can I get the scoop in Dec.?

Oh . Excuse me. Jason was privy.

That is hilarious. I watching my back. And all deliveries.

No lie... There is a guy not 20 minutes from my house who raises wild cats and has a LIGER ("It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic"). Only in Mississippi...

Other faves must include:
Elizabethtown
"To have never taken a solitary road trip across country? I mean everybody's got to take a road trip, at least once in their lives. Just you and some music."

About A Boy
"Suddenly I realized - two people isn't enough. You need backup. If you're only two people, and someone drops off the edge, then you're on your own. Two isn't a large enough number. You need three at least."

O Brother Where Art Thou
"We... thought... you... was... a... toad!"

OK... Haven't seen Dynamite. I heard that you have to watch it several times for it to get funnier and I don't have that much time to invest. Maybe I'll give it a first time try.

Tim - I too must admit that "Pride and Prejudice" made me tear up. It was a great movie.

I watched Nacho Libre a couple of nights ago. I thougth that was funny. Not a heavyweight film, but a good Lucha Libre film. I wonder if Shawn Gary is into Lucha Libre like he was WWF (not World Wildlife Federation.)

My favorite movie lately... Curious George. This is a must see! I totally loved this movie.

I agree, The Power of One is one of the greatest movies of all time. I also like Hotel Rwanda.
I must admit the first time I watched Napolean Dynamite, I thought it was the dumbest movie ever made. I watched it later in a different setting with some friends from Harding Grad school and members of our youth group and I found it hilarious. It is amazing how much setting has to do with one's view of a movie.

I think The Gods Must Be Crazy was in the 80's like Napoleon Dynamite is now. I felt tortured watching Napoleon, but after it was over I could recall some very funny lines. Watching Napoleon Dynamite reminds me of how I felt when I was forced(By someone I respect and love) to watch Tommy Boy.
And I agree with Daniel, some movies are all about the people you watch it with.

Tommy Boy IS AN AWHAWHAWSUM movie!! For the record... I did not force Amy to watch it and when I finally tied her to the chair she read a magazine through the entire movie. Claiming to already know the "one liners" that "make" the movie she claimed to have no interest. I think she was being closed minded and had no idea of the "power of who you watch movies with" ...(thank you Daniel) Her unwillingness to join me in the movie kind of hurt... "not so much here... or here... but right here."

My point... if you haven't seen, or watched, Tommy Boy...ie... all .01% of you... You should watch it! If you haven't seen in for a while... you should watch it again. I give it a thumbs up.

Herbie Hancock

Haven't seen Curious George yet... but I'm a big Jack Johnson fan (he does the soundtrack).

I first saw Napoleon with Ian and Monica (Smith) Fox! So, it is rich with memories!

Hey, has anyone seen Tim? We're just runnin' wild here! :-)

Sorry Ang, I stepped out to go to the bathroom and look what happens. Of course, this is Mexico so I was gone awhile.

Jeff, that is the most classic post ever! Did I hear a niner?

Amy G, it is all about the people... it makes me hurt for Jeff that you didn't give it a real shot.

Or was Daniel the one that said it was about the people? To prove your point, I went on a bad date to see Christmas Vacation and didn't think it was any good. Later, I watched it with funny people. I couldn't believe it.

Jason, just for the record, I didn't cry. And, I took Q to see Curious George in March. It is out here in Spanish now. But Will Ferrel made that movie. I can't imagine it without him.

Heather, did you like it? And I think we could get UPS to front the start-up money. If not, DHL would.

Shaner, how can that movie be funny? My lips hurt real bad... that's not funny. But it is.

I can't believe no one has mentioned The Wedding Singer...or So I Married An Ax Murderer....

Anyone seen Click? It's really bizarre. Quite a bit different for Adam.

I actually loved Tommy Boy. I have laughed everytime I've seen it.

OK, I have to throw in Elf with Will Farrell. That movie is way funny. I know you guys might think I'm a cotton-headed ninny-muggins, but it is just too funny.

Angie - That music was soo good for the movie. I've been listening to a lot of Jack's other albums. The Curious George movie is a good one to play in the car for the kids because you get to listen to good music and they get to watch a good show. It is a win-win situation.

Tim - Cry? Did I say cry? I must have mistyped... I... don't... cry... my eyes burn sometimes from it being late and watching a movie and they water a little, but I would never (admit to) cry(ing). BTW - can you email me your mailing address? How reliable has the mail system gotten in Mexico since 15 years ago? (holy cow it's been that long since I moved to Mexico!)

Flee, the Axe Murderer is another I saw on a bad date. Makes me wonder if I ever had a good date. I couldn't believe it when I saw it later and it was actually funny.

funny storie, I was once ragging on a movie I saw one time and mentioning how I was on a date so I had to pretend like I liked it. Then the girl next to me, who was now married to a good friend said, "Tim, you saw that with me." Ouch.

J, I'm with you on the Elf. Quality.

And I'll try to send you our address. The mail is pretty good here, unless you are my folks. I think everything they send gets lost.
