Proverbs 31

Ah, a wife of noble character, who can find?

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue. … her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’”

How fun to have found her!

Your kind words about Kim reminded me of a funeral I did recently. Harold Thomas, a patriarch of our congregation, died at the age of 92. He and his wife Roxie, who is still living, had been married over 70 years. In the hospital room, just after he passed away, Roxie said, "I've been married to him my whole life." They were always so kind and gracious toward each other.

At the funeral, the audience was given a chance to say something about Harold. One woman who had been their neighbor for many years stood and said that her marriage was better because of Harold and Roxie. I thought that was profound. Our kindness and generosity and service to our spouse really does make a difference, not only in our marriage, but in the world.

Equal parts of me have been enjoying each day with you in Proverbs...as well as...waiting for you to get to chapter 31, because I know your heart when it comes to God's gift of "wife" to "husband" (and vice versa) and I know your heart towards Kim. I'm thankful that you guys have the incredible gift of each other. (You got a great deal, my brother!)

Speaking of gifts, we worshipped with Rex a few weeks back. They had a time in which they were sharing with/encouraging a brother who'd just turned 19. Rex makes the statement, "where were you and what was going on when you were 19?" (Have I told you this story?)

"19," besides being a great anti-war song, just released about 20 years to late, but I digress, "19" was a good year for me for three reasons: I met you, RaDonna and Rex all within a very close proximity of time...all of you are used by our incredible Lord to bless me daily, always exactly when I need it...He's good!

I said all that to say this...in my Bible, at Proverbs 31, is a little piece of paper that says, "RaDonna?"...it was put there A LONG time ago and reminds me of prayers answered as I enjoy the blessing of having a Proverbs 31 woman in my life, as my wife, partner, soulmate, friend, etc, etc.

btw--your name is written at Mark 10:29...can't wait till you blog on Mark. Just so you'll know...it's written beside the "hundred fold"--as opposed to "as well persecutions."

Thanks for sharing your heart and insight the last 4 weeks...you are, and always have been, a blessing.

James, I totally remember that Mark 10:29 conversation. Yet another time we were supposed to be praying. At least this time we were have a Bible discussion and not one about... well, you know.

Dust, have you heard the song, "I am the Luckiest"? Such great words, though it takes an odd turn. Your post reminded me of it.
